It is not often that you hear a successful, world-famous musician complaining about people being elitist.
After all, celebrities are stereotypically viewed as elitist themselves. That is precisely what makes the actions of one famous musician so noteworthy.
The Blaze reported that “James Hetfield, founder and frontman of the world-famous metal band Metallica, said he recently moved out of his home city of San Francisco because he simply couldn’t deal with the city’s ‘elitist attitude’ any longer.”
Appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast, Hetfield that he had to move because he was looked down upon “for his lifestyle choices and political views.” Hetfield asserted that “liberal San Francisco residents accept ‘diversity’ only if you’re like them.
“I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit,” Hetfield said. “They talk about how diverse they are, and things like that, and it’s fine if you’re diverse like them. But showing up with a deer on the bumper doesn’t fly in Marin County.”
So Hetfield and his wife, Francesca, have relocated to her hometown of Vail, Colo., where they can enjoy the outdoors and go hunting freely.
Sadly, Hetfield’s experience are yet another commentary on the state of liberal inclusiveness and diversity. It is okay to be different from them, as long as your style of different is not too conservative. The type of intimidation and harassment that makes people move from a city like San Francisco is exactly why we saw the disparate numbers between urban, suburban and rural communities in this year’s presidential election.
