President-elect Donald Trump spoke out recently about the United Nations vote to condemn Israel for their continued settlement of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Unlike President Obama who ordered the US abstention from the vote, Trump is taking a tough stand for Israel and against the UN.
Columnist and Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer took things even further. Krauthammer blasted the UN. for the vote noting that the UN spends “more than half its time and energy and resources and bureaucracy trying to attack the only Jewish state on the planet, a tiny little spec, while genocide, mayhem, murder and terrorism is going on all over the world. It’s an obsession that, to an outside observer, appears to be insane.”
Krauthammer further accused the UN of attempts to undermine “the United States and democracy and our allies around the world.” Although the UN “was born in hope at the end of the Second World War,” he said, “it turned out to be a disaster” that “exacerbates tensions” rather than assuaging them.
“I think that’s good real estate in downtown New York City,” Krauthammer quipped, “and Trump ought to find a way to put his name on it and turn it into condos.”
Krauthammer shares the views of many conservatives who believe the UN. has failed in recent years to accomplish what it was created to do.
