Liberals love to trash Fox News. They repeatedly bash the cable news network as biased and too conservative while at the same time ignoring their own liberal bias. This year, the liberal news media got it wrong.
They backed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and practically became the media wing of her campaign.
Yet despite their best efforts, the liberal media were stunned when President-elect Donald Trump claimed victory in November. AdWeek has more bad news for the liberal media.
Nielsen ratings data for 2016 reveal that “Fox News Channel is Cable TV’s Most-Watched Network.” Despite the roller coaster year that the network experienced, Fox News “finished 2016 as the most-watched basic cable network in prime time and total day, a first for the network.” Fox News ranks fourth among all television networks behind the “big four” networks including NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX.
The network experienced a dramatic series of highs and lows throughout the year with huge ratings for their presidential debates as well as other high profile shows. Fox News was also reportedly the most watched network on election night. The lows, including a sexual harassment accusation by former host Gretchen Carlson which resulted in the exit of Roger Ailes, did not adversely affect viewership.
The ratings mark significant gains for the network with overall viewers up 36 percent and a 42 percent for viewers between the ages of 25 an 54. All three of Fox News’ primetime stars, Bill O’Reilly, Megyn Kelly and Sean Hannity also saw their ratings rise.
“As we close out our 20th year, Fox News continues to redefine television news and break ratings records, proving it is indeed the most watched and most trusted television news source in the country,” said co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine.
