Mainstream media is under fire from liberal celebrities calling for truthful information instead of “fake news.”
Critics have shown how mainstream media, which has attacked online news sites for fake news, produces false information regularly.
One of the most prominent actors in modern times called out reporters at a publicity event last week.
Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington said the media has a responsibility to tell the American people the truth.
If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed. So what a responsibility you all have – to tell the truth.
Washington was at the National Museum of African American History and Culture for the premiere of “Fences,” based on an award-winning play of the same name. The movie centers on the life of a black family in 1950s Pittsburgh. It is set to be released on Christmas.
After a fake news story circulated earlier this year claiming Washington had switched his support from Hillary Clinton to now President-elect Donald Trump, he lashed out at mainstream media for selling “BS.”
Washington, 61, said there’s “too much information” now.
“The need to be first, not even to be true anymore,” he continued.
“In our society, now it’s just first — who cares, get it out there. We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who we destroy. We don’t care if it’s true. Just say it, sell it.”
Anything you practice you’ll get good at — including BS.
Conservatives have complained about media bias – fake news – for years. Finally, liberals from various walks of life are recognizing and complaining about the same problem.
Trump has attacked the media and won’t back down from that fight.
It’s another space of common ground where he acts as unifier to bring together the left and the right in America.
