Our Constitution worked on Election Day. The electoral college, created to ensure that big states and metropolitan areas could not hold a monopoly on the presidency, worked. But liberals throughout the country began protesting because they did not like the outcome. They have continued to protest. Many, touting slogans such as “Love Trumps Hate,” are themselves becoming violent in their protests.
As President Trump was inaugurated on Friday, protest groups from around the country planned legal, peaceful protests. But some took to the streets in an effort to illegally block the inauguration and to physically harm people and property.
CBS reported that 217 of the 230 people arrested on Friday will face felony charges for rioting. Protesters smashed the windows of businesses, damaged vehicles and attacked Trump supporters.
Police had to use “pepper spray and ‘sting balls’ against the crowd.” Breitbart reported that some rioters also “burned waste canisters” and “threw the embers at police.” Six police officers were reportedly injured in the protests. Thankfully, all the injuries are minor.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.” Most of those arrested will be released without bail and will return to court in February.
The first group of protestors, a group of ten men, have already entered a not guilty plea before a Superior Court judge. He “released all of them on the condition that they not get re-arrested in the District of Columbia.”
