The inauguration of President Donald Trump on Friday as the 45th President of the United States was a historic event. Like all inaugurations, we witnessed the peaceful transition of power from one party to another. This is an iconic moment in American history that repeats itself every four or eight years. This year was no different.
Despite calls for peace, many protestors also showed up for the inaugural events. Some protest events were peaceful, organized marches where people showed up in attempts to have their voices heard. Others were not nearly as peaceful.
Some “love trumps hate” protestors smashed windows, vandalized vehicles and attacked Trump supporters. Among other things, these protestors bashed Trump for his views on immigration and Islamic extremists. So, it would be fair to think that they would support a Muslim immigrant in their midst.
Red Alert Politics reported that one Muslim immigrant in Washington was actually a victim of the protestors. Muhammad Ashraf owns Nationwide Chauffeured Services in Washington. During Friday’s protests, his employee was injured and his limousine torched by protestors. While not a supporter of President Trump, Ashraf is also not supporting the protestors.
“I have a different point of view,” Ashraf said. “I did not agree with many of the things [Trump] said, but that still does not give me the right to go and affect someone’s livelihood.”
“I don’t think we need to take this [violent] route,” he added. Ashraf said that one of his employees had just dropped off a client when violence erupted. The car was pounded, protestors threw stones and bricks in his employee’s direction and the car was eventually destroyed. His employee was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
Ashraf said the protestors have cost him dearly including the loss of the vehicle worth $70,000 as well as commission and medical expenses for his injured employee. The protestors, angry with President Trump over his positions on illegal immigration and Islamic extremism have themselves personally destroyed “the livelihood of a Muslim immigrant.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Ashraf recover from the event and save his company. Ashraf announced that after expenses are paid, any remaining funds from the GoFundMe page will be donated to charity.
