The holiday season is finally upon us. It is time to start making plans to spend time with loved ones. It is time to buy gifts and prepare for holiday parties.
Except that this year some of those parties will not be allowed. The reason why will make you mad.
Several high-profile Hollywood publicity firms have made the decision to cancel this year’s holiday parties due to the election of Donald Trump.
Among the most notable of these firms is Sunshine Sachs which represents starts such as Natalie Portman and Leonardo DiCaprio and companies such as Facebook. CEO Shawn Sachs claims the decision was based on his employees’ feelings following Trump’s victory.
“I felt the morning after was nothing compared to how I felt talking to people in this office, those who felt their citizenship – in a matter of moments – was gone or had been lessened,” Sachs said.
The firm typically hosts large, star-studded holiday parties in New York and Los Angeles. But not this year.
In lieu of its annul parties, the firm will donate the budgets to pro-abortion, LBGT rights, and immigration organizations like Planned Parenthood, the Human Rights Campaign and the Immigrant Defense Fund. Sunshine Sachs will also donate money to gun control advocacy groups like Everytown for Gun Safety, as well as the Environmental Defense Fund and Muslim Aid America.
The company will also reportedly shut down their offices for a company-wide day of service followed by a more private celebration.
It is a shame that Sunshine Sachs executives feel the need to volunteer and donate to their causes only in protest to Trump and instead of a holiday party for their employees and clients. Such actions illustrate that they are missing the entire point of Christmas and the holiday season. Shouldn’t they be able to volunteer, donate and celebrate themselves? Why must a political statement ruin holiday parties?
